The other day, this random thought crossed my mind: slow down to keep moving forward.
I’ve been hearing for years about the importance of slowing down. I can see that this hard to achieve. Why would I slow down when there’s so many things to do on the day? Is that feasible in a world that demands my attention and energy every minute? It almost feels like it’s not productive to slow down.
While it’s difficult to get rid of those thoughts, I find that it makes sense to go slower in order to open the door to new ideas and mindsets. If I’m in a rush all the time, how would I be able to notice all the little things that make my life great? Wouldn’t it be better to appreciate them in slow motion?
So yes, slowing down to keep moving forward is a good idea.
If you think about it for a moment, slowing down is not a passive action. It doesn’t mean “stop completely.” To me, it simply means “rush less.” Motion is ongoing. When there’s less rush, you give yourself time to observe and fortify your creativity.
You can actually refocus your attention on the things that matter or readjust priorities so that you can keep moving towards the goals you’re trying to reach. You prevent situations that might lead you to a direction you weren’t intending to go.
As I prepare myself to welcome my first child, I can see that slowing down is going to bring a positive change into my life. I’m opening the doors to a new lifestyle that will help me grow as a person and as a creative.
I need to slow down to see the world with different eyes. I’m not going static. I’m moving towards a new stage of my life and this is truly exciting.
How are you slowing down today?
